N-LAB Receives Gates Foundation Award

The N-LAB’s ongoing research in using big data for development has now been recognised by the Gates Foundation in awarding the N-Lab a $100,000 grant for Financial Data Mapping in East Africa.

N/LAB is a centre of excellence at the University of Nottingham in international analytics. We research the use of Big Data, Psychology and Machine Learning to augment social policy and business decision making. In particular we derive novel forms of demographic intelligence that is generated from digital footprint data streams, partnering with NGOs, government and multinational companies across the globe

Our research primarily focuses on the development of behavioural analysis and predictive modelling techniques via novel computational and AI methods applied to a rich range of data sources (from retail data to communications), provided by international collaborators (NGOs, Government, Private Sector) across some of the world's fastest growing emerging economies, from the UK, to Tanzania, Malaysia and China.
